A Long Way From Anything

A guy trying to find a home that never was.

Gone

Saturday, May 14, 2005
Okay, I have completed that big step in life. Yes, I now have a college degree. I can now sound all snooty and say "Yes, I have a degree in Philosophy." By the way, I got a 3.83 this semester (damn that History of the Third Reich class!). In other news though, I'm leaving for Europe. Now. My bags are packed and I'm ready to go...later all, I'll talk to you in a month. If you want a postcard, drop me a line at my gmail address.

I'm out.

Done

Monday, May 09, 2005
Well, today at 7:20pm EST I completed the last final of my degree. So now I'm done. It's strange, I thought I'd feel some sort of elation. However, I think I'm feeling a bit of everything at the moment. A bit anxious, a bit scared, a bit proud, a bit happy, etc... A huge conflagration of emotion has arisen within me to the point that I simply cannot differentiate between my emotions. Anyway, I'm done. Time to sleep.

God

Concerning those two boys that were swept out to sea on their fishing trip. The elder of them (Long) recently said "I think it was a test from God, this whole experience was, and that was to test my faith and my best friend's faith and the faith in my family." (from CBC news)

I hate it when people say stuff like that. I always end up thinking "Man, your God must be a real prick." Don't you think a God that preached infinite forgiveness and love for all of mankind would be a bit nicer? Even if you think God isn't nice though, simply by being omniscient wouldn't he know how strong your faith is? Why would he have to test you? If he knew everything he'd know how you'd act in any possible situation.

Friends

Sunday, May 01, 2005
Ahhh, friends bringing gifts are some of life's most wonderful pleasures. S showed up last night for a pre-emptive graduation celebration. And he brought me a gift! It's a Kershaw speed-safe knife (the Blackout model), so it opens with a slight push on the thumb stud. A legal switchblade in other words. Very cool. We sat around and talked about medicine, philosophy, politics, and knife fighting techniques over a few beers.

It's good to have friends who know you.
