Well, I'll follow the lead of Lady Larken and S. Parenthetically, it is interesting to note that both my brother and I "got " Dwight. It seems something about our genes, our family, or our upbringing makes us a little crazy. ;)

You scored as Dwight. You are Dwight.

You are eager to prove your worth to others. You will go out of your way to protect those you care about and people depend on you to get them out of trouble. Though you are helpful to people you like, those who rub you the wrong way are in trouble. You are outta your mind and you don't care who knows it.

Job

I have a job! As of thursday, I now have employment. I can't tell you what a relief this has been for me. Losing my job was such an emotional blow to me that it's hard to put into words. However, I think overall it has been good for me. It caused me to adapt, to change, and to advance myself and my knowledge. Something which should not be discounted.

So, I now work in a level 2 support position, basically acting as a liason between the support guys and the developers. I dig into the software and find out what part of the code is causing problems, sketch out possible solutions and send it up to the developers. A nice little perk of this job is that I get a laptop and a blackberry. A better perk is a HUGE salary! I never dreamed that I'd be making this much money! When they offered it to me it was all I could do to not give them a blank look and ask "Are you sure you have that right? Offering ME that I mean?!?"

So now, it's all good.

Interviews

Thursday, September 01, 2005
Well, for the past week or so I've been interviewing my butt off. While not as bad as playing soccer or raining down fire and brimstone, it's pretty tiring. You have to be "on" all the time. Be charming, be witty, be knowledgable, etc... That plus driving all over Nashville wears you out. The Headhunters have been really helpful though. What's a Headhunter? Well, I'm glad you asked.

You see, in the IT world, it is often the case that the management has no idea what you're doing. Try explaining relational databases, Winform vs Webform, Stringbuilder, or Mod (remainder) functions to a guy who only has good hair and a great golf score. I have neither, btw.

So, these people hire what are affectionetly referred to as "Headhunters." These folks go out, find IT folks, give them tests to make sure they actually know what they say they know, and then pimp out the applicants to their clients. They basically get 10-15% from the company for whatever your salary will be (purely commission, no salary for them). So they've been really helpful. Since I'm in touch with three headhunters, I have interviews ever day. My suit has gotten more use in the last week than it has in the year before it.

But apparently I look pretty good in it. A guy commented the other day "Wow, you look sharp! Normally IT guys aren't much on suits." I replied that I try to distance myself from the majority of IT guys: "I also have decent personal hygene and possess more than the minimum in interpersonal skills." That was good for a laugh.
